Military Medal 'This man showed most conspicuous gallantry in the attack on VILLE-SUR-ANCRE on 19th May, 1918. When an enemy Machine Gun had put out of action three of our attacking party, he rushed the post single-handed, and with a revolver shot three of the crew of four. The fourth escaped with the gun in the darkness. Private HOLLOWAY reported to his Platoon Officer, guided him back to the spot and assisted him in capturing the remaining member of the crew with the gun intact. In preparing the attack this man proved invaluable to the Engineers engaged in erecting bridges, helping them to pick suitable crossings and guiding the parties over most difficult and marshy country under fire.'
