War service: Egypt, Gallipoli, Western Front Joined 8th Bn, Gallipoli, 26 May 1915. Admitted to 1st Casualty Clearing Station, 6 September 1915 (tonsilitis); transferred to Mudros; admitted to 1st Australian General Hospital, Heliopolis, 11 September 1915, and transferred same day to No 4 Auxiliary Hospital, Abbassia (debility and tonsilitis); discharged to Helouan Convalescent Camp, 7 October 1915. Rejoined Bn, Gallipoli, 23 November 1915. Disembarked Alexandria, 7 January 1916 (general Gallipoli evacuation). Taken on strength, 60th Bn, Tel el Kebir, 24 February 1916. Transferred to 59th Bn, and taken on strength, 15 March 1916. Found guilty, 1 May 1916, of being absent from camp without leave till 2300, 29 April 1916: awarded 10 days' Field Punishment No 2. Embarked Alexandria to join the British Expeditionary Force, 18 June 1916; disembarked Marseilles, France, 29 June 1916. Posted missing, 19 July 1916.
