War service: Egypt, Western Front Embarked Melbourne, 27 September 1915; failed to re-embark at Fremantle, and posted as a deserter, 7 October 1915. [No details recorded of re-embarkation and disembarkation in Egypt.] Admitted to 1st Australian Dermatological Hospital, Abbassia from Detention Barracks, 4 January 1916; discharged, 19 February 1916; total period of treatment for venereal disease: 16 days. Transferred to 2nd Divisional Ammunition Column, 11 March 1916; appointed Driver and posted to No 3 Section, 19 March 1916. Embarked Alexandria to join the British Expeditionary Force, 20 March 1916; disembarked Marseilles, France, 27 March 1916. Mustered Gunner at own request, 19 September 1916. Transferred to 22nd Field Artillery Brigade, 20 September 1916, and posted to 19th Battery. Transferred to 4th Field Artillery Brigade, and posted to 11th Battery, 27 January 1917.
