Transferred to 57th Bn, Serapeum, 17 February 1916; to 60th Bn, Tel el Kebir, 15 March 1916; to 5th Divisional Artillery, 17 March 1916; taken on strength, 25th Howitzer Brigade, and posted to 114th Battery, 17 March 1916.

Embarked Alexandria to join the British Expeditionary Force, 19 June 1916; disembarked Marseilles, 25 June 1916. Transferred to 115th Battery, 7 July 1916.

Transferred to 4th Field Artillery Brigade, 4 October 1917; taken on strength, 10th Battery, 5 October 1917.

Wounded in action (gas), 24 October 1917, and admitted to 3rd Field Ambulance (laryngitis and gas); transferred same day to 1st Divisional Rest Station; to Casualty Clearing Station, 29 October 1917; to 11th Stationary Hospital, Rouen, 1 November 1917; to England, 11 November 1917, and admitted to Tooting Military Hospital (gas poisoning: severe); discharged on furlough, 10 December 1917, to report to No 3 Command Depot, 24 December 1917. Marched into No 2 Command Depot, 29 March 1918.

Commenced return to Australia on board HT 'Runic', 23 September 1918 (gun shot wound, left thumb); disembarked Melbourne, 26 November 1918; discharged, Melbourne, 14 August 1919.
