On Command at Pigeon School, 27 December 1916; rejoined unit, 31 December 1916.

Admitted to 5th Divisional rest Station, 6 March 1917 (furuncolosis); transferred to 54th Casualty Clearing Station, 15 March 1917; to 5th General Hospital, Rouen, 16 March 1917 (boils); to England, 22 March 1917, and admitted to 3rd London General Hospital, Wandsworth, 23 March 1917. Wounded in action, 26 September 1917 (gun shot wound, left leg), and admitted to 6th Australian Field Ambulance; transferred same day to 10th Casualty Clearing Station, thence to Ambulance Train, and admitted to 3rd Canadian General Hospital, Boulogne, 27 September 1917. Transferred to England, 28 September 1917, and admitted same day to Guildford War Hospital; transferred to 1st Australian Auxiliary Hospital, 22 November 1917; discharged on furlough, 22 December 1917, to report to No 3 Command Depot, Hurdcott, 5 January 1918. Marched in to Overseas Training Brigade, Longbridge Deverill, 9 April 1918. Proceeded overseas to France, 8 May 1918; rejoined Bn, 2 June 1918.

Found guiltry of while on Active Service absenting himself without leave from 6.30 am on 5.9.18 till 6 pm on 8.9.1918: awarded 6 days' Field Punishment No 2; forfeited a total of 10 days' pay.

Wounded in action (2nd occasion), 29 September 1918 (shrapnel wound, right leg); admitted to 20th Casualty Clearing Station, 30 September 1918; transferred to 12th General Hospital, Rouen, 1 October 1918; to 8th General Hospital, Rouen, 3 October 1918 (fractured femur); to England, 9 October 1918, and admitted to 2nd Southern General Hospital, Bristol, 10 October 1918; to 1st Australian General Hospital, Sutton Veny, 21 January 1919.

Commenced return to Australia on board HT 'Wandilla', 31 March 1919; disembarked Melbourne, 18 May 1919; discharged, Melbourne, 7 May 1920.
