Military Medal 'During the operations from 29th September to 1st October in the vicinity of BELLICOURT, this man displayed splendid qualities of courage and endurance. In the heaviest part of the advance he kept well up with the assaulting wave although carrying additional gear and getting his gun into action, covered the Infantry while consolidating and greatly assisted them by neutralising enemy machine gun fire. He was heedless of personal safety and pushed his gun into forward positions in order to command enemy machine gun posts. Later while pushing still further on he was wounded but his wonderful example held good. His magnificent work accounted for a number of enemy casualties and materially assisted the operations.'
