Distinguished Conduct Medal 'For conspicuous gallantry and able leadership when his company was temporarily checked by direct fire from a field battery. He did excellent work in rallying the men and working them forward. After reaching the final objective he cleared the ground for several hundred yards in advance, inflicting severe casualties on the enemy. His example was eagerly followed by his men.'
