Distinguished Conduct Medal 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. When a detached post was driven back from a position which was connected by telephone with the brigade on the right, he went out at great personal risk and cut the telephone wire. He carried out his duties as despatch rider during the operations with great skill and courage under the most difficult conditions, and never failed to deliver his despatches.
