'On the morning of the 15th April 1917 the 43rd Battery was being heavily shelled, when in position near LONGATE. Private FREEMAN showed great courage and devotion to duty in attending to the casualties, throughout the whole period under heavy shell fire. he materially steadied the remainder of the men during the bombardment.'
