'For specially meritorious service, conspicuous ability and devotion to duty. While serving in various Departments in Third Australian General Hospital this N.C.O. has given evidence of an unusual capacity for rising to emergencies and for meeting sudden and unusual demands. By his example he has inspired the men working under him to emulate his own high standard; and his cheerfulness and readiness under all circumstances together with his high personal character have been a standard and example of utmost value.'
