Military Medal

'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty in the operations east of YPRES on 11th October, 1917, when acting as a stretcher bearer, especially in the evening during the heavy bombardment by the enemy of the line of evacuation from ZONNEBEKE to Railway Dump. Private FREEMAN courageously on several occasions carried in wounded through their fire and continued to do so until the whole number had been brought o safety. His bravery was a magnificent example to his comrades and his cheerfulness under heavy shell fire was beyond all praise.'
