Military Medal

'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. On the 20th October, 1917, whilst on the YPRES - MENIN Road, in charge of ammunition urgently required at the Battery, a heavy barrage on the road and vicinity was encountered. Notwithstanding the heavy shell fire, Driver C.E. FRESHNEY, by his own sterling service and example ensured the delivery of the ammunition to his Battery at a very critical time. His work has been excellent throughout the whole period of the recent operations.'
