Meritorious Service Medal 'For gallantry and devotion to duty for the period 17th September to November 11th 1918. During the operations carried out on 17th to 19th September 1918 at JEANCOURT and LE VERGUIER by the 4th Australian Division this N.C.O. did most gallant and unselfish service in connection with Horse Ambulance Transport, thereby very materially assisting in the evacuation of the large number of casualties sustained in this operation. This N.C.O. has served continuously with the 4th Australian Field Ambulance Horse Transport since 2nd November 1915 and during this period has been conspicuous for his unfailing cheerfulness and devotion to duty at all times. I consider him most deserving of special recognition.'
