Military Medal 'For conspicuous courage and devotion to duty. On 4th October, 1917, at BROODSEINDE he performed his duties as runner with a complete disregard of danger and risk. Without hesitation he carried messages through the heaviest fire to the forward positions when all other means of communication had failed. At night he acted as a guide and was continuously on duty, without sleep for long periods of time.'
