Admitted to New Zealand Field Ambulance, 8 August 1915 (sprained ankle); transferred to 24th Casualty Clearing Station, Mudros, 11 August 1915.

Disembarked Alexandria, 29 December 1915 (general Gallipoli evacuation).

Taken on strength, 4th Machine Gun Company, Serapeum, 9 March 1916.

Found guilty, 24 March 1916, of drunkenness: fined 5/-.

Embarked Alexandria to join the British Expeditionary Force, 1 June 1916; disembarked Marseilles, France, 9 June 1916.

On leave to England, 26 September 1917; rejoined unit from leave, 8 October 1917.

Unit designation changed to 4th Machine Gun Bn.

Wounded in action, 12 May 1918 (fractured skull, shell wounds both feet, left thigh), and admitted to 12th Field Ambulance, and transferred to 47th Casualty Clearing Station.
