Joined Machine Gun Reinforcements, Sydney Show Grounds, 6 February, 1917: transferred, 'August reinforcements', Australian Army Medical Corps, 15 May 1917.

Embarked Sydney on board S.S 'De'thenes', 9 November 1917; treated on ship for Bronchitis and Severe Gastritis. Found guilty, on ship, 26 November 1917, of Insolence to an .CO, 26 November 1917: awarded forfeiture of 7 days' pay. Disembarked, Glasgow, Scotland, 31 December 1917.

Sent to AAMC Training Depot, Parkhouse, 1 January 1918; proceeded to France via Southampton, 13 January 1918; marched out to Australian General Base Depot, Roulles, 14 January 1918; marched out to 1st Australian Convalescence Depot, Roulles, 18 April 1918; taken on strength, 1st Australian Convalescence Depot, 18 April 1918.
