Tranferred to 5th Divisional Artillery, and posted to 54th Battery, 15 March 1916. Detached to School of Instruction, Zeitoun, 2 April 1916; rejoined unit, 20 April 1916. Embarked Alexandria to join the British Expeditionary Force, 20 June 1916; disembarked Marseilles, France, 30 June 1916. Admitted to No 9 Casualty Clearing Station, 2 April 1917; transferred to Ambulance Train, 3 April 1917; to No 13 General Hospital, Boulogne, 4 April 1917 (gunshot wound, ear); to England, 7 April 1917 (gunshot wound, face, left side); to Kitchener Military Hospital, Brighton, 7 April 1917; to No 3 Auxiliary Hospital, 7 May 1917; discharged to No 2 Command Depot, Weymouth, 26 June 1917.
