'At POZIERES, FRANCE, during the period 16th. to 22nd. August 1916, Pte. GANDY did splendid work as a stretcher bearer bringing in wounded men, both by stretchers and on his own back, from the front line trenches and from No Mans Land. Most of this work done over the top, in many cases without assistance, and under very heavy shell fire.'
