Military Medal

'On the 11th August, 1918, during operations on the SOMME, this man's Company occupied an advanced post near the village of MERICOURT SUR SOMME, and one of three Officers was badly wounded by an enemy sniper. Private GARLAND was a Company stretcher bearer and in company with Private RIDDLE, went forward across the open, dressed the Officers wounds, and brought him back to the post, in spite of the fact that he was repeatedly fired at by enemy snipers.'
