War service: Egypt, Gallipoli, Western Front Admitted to Field Ambulance Convalescent Camp, east Mudros, 18 December 1915 (influenza); discharged to duty, 22 December 1915. Tried by Field General Court Martial, 9 June 1917, on charges (1) when on Active Service refusing to obey a lawful command given by his superior Officer, 18 May 1917; (2) when on Active Service using insubordinate language to his superior Officer, 18 May 1917; (3) conduct prejudicial to good order and Military Discipline, in that he on 23 May 1917 while a prisoner in confinement had wine in his possession; found Guilty on all charges; awarded 12 months' imprisonment with hard labour; commuted to 90 days' Field Punishment No 2, 9 June 1917. Rejoined Bn from detention. 14 July 1917. Wounded in action, 20 September 1917 (shrapnel wound, arm); transferred to England, 25 September 1917, and admitted to Royal Victoria Hospital, Netley (gun shot wound, left arm). Found guilty, 12 January 1918, of drunkenness in London, 5 January 1918: forfeited 7 days' pay. Found guilty, 19 March 1918, of being absent without leave from 8.30 am, 15 March, until apprehended at 10.15 am, 16 March 1918: admonished, and forfeited 2 days' pay. Proceeded overseas to France, 28 March 1918; rejoined Bn, in the field, 2 April 1918. Wounded in action (second occasion), 22 July 1918. Found guilty, Rouelles, 27 September 1918, of neglecting to obey an order given by his superior Officer: forfeited 10 days' pay. Rejoined unit, 10 October 1918.
