Military Medal 'On 9th August 1918 during the attack on enemy positions between villages of VAUVILLERS and LIHONS, Lance Corporal GASSON displayed great courage and initiative. During a temporary check in the advance Lance Corporal GASSON on his own initiative skilfully manouevred two Lewis Guns into position, and by bringing cross fire to bear on the enemy enabled the advance to continue. His Lewis Guns caused many casualties among the enemy machine gunners, and the personal courage of Lance Corporal GASSON in repeatedly exposing himself in positions of great danger was an inspiring example. The work of this N.C.O. was extremely valuable, as it materially assisted a successful advance, and was performed under heavy and continuous machine gun fire.'
