'For gallantry and untiring devotion to duty during operations east of YPRES. On 23rd September, 1917, several gun pits were set alight by shell fire and Sergeant GEORGE materially assisted in extinguishing the fires, and the example set by him was largely instrumental in getting the guns into action again.'
