Medals |
Military Medal 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty during the attacks near ESTREES, east of PERONNE, on 3rd/4th October, 1918. In crossing a gully considerable resistance was met with among a group of shelters and bivouacs close to a quarry. Sergeant GILCHRIST collected a party of men and reinforced the scouts who had pushed on ahead and were engaged in a bayonet fight. He led this small party with splendid dash, killing two germans himself and securing several prisoners. On arrival at the objective he showed fine initiative in pushing his posts out on better ground in front, thus covering the remainder of the company. Next morning in a further attack he demonstrated his capabilities as a vigorous and daring leader. MM awarded 19th October, 1918.'
