'On 31st July 1917, No. 1921 gunner B.B. GILHOULEY, accompanied the Advanced intelligence Officer, 2nd Lieut. L.P. LEARY RFA, with the first wave of the Infantry of the 16th Division in the attack. This man made repeated journeys through the intense hostile barrage between the intelligence Officer and cable head all other means of communication having failed. it was almost entirely due to the fearlessness and perseverance displayed by Gunner GILHOULEY that information was sent back.'
