Medals |
Military Medal 'For bravery and devotion to duty. These men [2929 L. ELLIS, 4287 E.H.G. ELLIS] are members of the Wireless Section of this Company. During the operations forward of HEILLY on night of 28th/29th July 1918, when we succeeded in gaining valuable ground from the enemy, they were in charge of a Power Buzzer and Amplifier Station with the O.C. Raid in our front line. They established and maintained communication with Battalion headquarters during the whole of the operations. On one or two occasions, when cables had been cut, this means of communication proved most valuable. Important information was transmitted by them. They were in position from 6 p.m. on 28th until 9 a.m. on 29th July. For the last six hours they were working under heavy artillery fire from the enemy. Their enthusiasm and disregard for danger resulted in continuous maintenance of communication from front to rear by Power Buzzer, which was very useful when the cables at times failed.'
