Found guilty, at sea, of breaking ship at Durban, 21 June 1916: awarded forfeiture of 1 day's pay. Found guilty, 28 July 1916, of breaking ship and failing to re-embark, Cape Town: awarded 14 days' Field Punishment No 2, forfeiture of 28 days' pay, and fined five pounds.

Transferred to 11th Bn, 22 September 1916, and marched in to 3rd Training Bn, England.

Proceeded overseas to France, 23 September 1916; joined 11th Bn, 4 October 1916.

Admitted to 2nd Australian Field Ambulance, 12 November 1916 (influenza); rejoined Bn, 16 November 1916.

Admitted to 1st Australian Dermatological Hospital, Bulford, whhile on leave, 1 December 1917; discharged, 13 December 1917; total period of treatment for venereal disease.

District Court Martial held 24 December 1917. Charge: When on Active Service absenting himself without leave in that he in London failed to report to the RTO at Victoria Station and remained absent until he surrendered himself to the Military Authorities in London on 29 November 1917. Pleaded guilty. Found guilty: awarded 30 days' detewntion, forfeited 108 days' pay, and fined five pounds. Admitted to AIF Detention Barracks, Lewes, 29 December 1917; discharged from Detention Barracks, 18 January 1918.

Proceeded overseas to France, 23 January 1918; rejoined Bn, 31 January 1918. Allotted Regimental Number 185A.

Wounded in action, Belgium, 12 March 1918 (gun shot wound, left shoulder), and admitted to 2nd Casualty Clearing Station; transferred to 32nd Stationary Hospital, Wimereux, 18 March 1918; to 2nd Convalescent Depot, 24 March 1918; to Australian Infantry Base Depot, 7 April 1918; rejoined Bn, 11 April 1918.

Wounded in action, France, 10 August 1918; admitted to No 1 Australian Field Ambulance, 11 August 1918 (abrasions, both corneas); transferred to 53rd Casualty Clearing Station, 12 August 1918; by Ambulance Train No 10, 12 August 1918, to 5th General Hospital, Rouen, 13 August 1918; to England, 22 August 1918, and admitted to 4th London General Hospital, Denmark Hill, 23 August 1918. Transferred to 3rd Australian Auixiliary Hospital, Dartford, 1 October 1918; marched in to No 1 Command Depot, Sutton Veny, 1 October 1918.

Found guilty, 21 October 1918, of being absent without leave from 10 am, 18 October, until 10.30 am, 21 October 1918: admonished and forfeited a total of 4 days' pay.

Admitted to No 1 Australian Dermatological Hospital, Bulford, 3 December 1918; discharged, 5 January 1919; total period of treatment for venereal disease: 34 days.

Marched in to No 1 Command Depot, 14 January 1919.

Found guilty, 1 March 1919, of being absent without leave from 2359, 25 February, to 1600, 28 February 1919: awarded forfeiture of 3 days' pay; forfeited a total of 6 days' pay.

Commenced return to Australia from Liverpool on board HT 'Khyber', 31 March 1919; disembarked Fremantle, 23 May 1917; discharged, Perth, 30 June 1919.
