War service: Egypt, Western Front Disembarked Suez, ex-HMAT 'Geelong', 18 December 1915. Found guilty, Ismailia, 3 February 1916, of (1) disobedience of orders in that he absented himself from camp from 1700 hours without leave from his Commanding Officer, (2) being drunk in Canal Street at 1730 hours: award, (1) admonished and forfeits one day's pay, (2) fined 2/6 and 14 days' confined to barracks. Taken on strength of 1st Australian Field Butchery, Tel el Kebir, 16 March 1916. Embarked Alexandria to join the British Expeditionary Force, 23 March 1916; disembarked Marseilles, France, 30 March 1916. Admitted to No 1 Australian General Hospital, 17 May 1916 (haemorrhoids); discharged and rejoined 1st Australian Field Butchery, 25 May 1916. Found guilty, 10 July 1916, of being absent from 2130 hours, until 2245 hours, 9 July 1916: awarded 7 days' confined to camp. Found guilty, 14 February 1917, of being drunk while on active service: awarded 14 days' confined to barracks and fined 5/-.
