Military Medal 'During the operations near BELLICOURT on 30th September, 1918, to 2nd October, 1918, this N.C.O. rendered the most valuable service to his Company Commander. Throughout the entire operation he displayed the greatest courage, initiative and qualities of leadership. On several occasions he reorganised patties of Lewis Gunners and riflemen when the greater part of their sections had become casualties. On one occasion with six men he attacked an enemy strong post on the left flank which was causing heavy casualties, killing the entire garrison of 11 men and capturing 4 machine guns. During the consolidation he was always to be seen in the most exposed positions encouraging his men to greater efforts.'
