Military Medal 'East of GUEUDECOURT on the night of 23rd/24th February, 1917, Lance Corporal GORDON accompanied Lieutenant BUCHAN, his Company second in command, into TNO MANUS LANDU in order to tape out and reconnoitre the line of the sap to SUNRAY TRENCH which was then to be shortly occupied. It was found, owing to the darkness of the night and persistence of the enemy machine gun fire, inadvisable to return to the original starting point. In endeavouring to get back to our lines by another route a point was approached where their presence in TNO MANUS LANDU was unknown as machine gun fire was directed against them from our own trenches. Lance Corporal GORDON however crawled forward, successfully gained the trench and informed the machine gunners of the presence of Lieutenant BUCHAN who was thereby able to proceed in safety. Lance Corporal GORDONUs name has before been brought to my notice for conspicuous bravery.'
