Military Medal Source: 'Commonwealth Gazette' No. 23 Date: Bar to Military Medal 'At MONTBREHAIN, east of PERONNE, on the 5th October, 1918, this N.C.O. displayed great coolness, initiative and bravery during the advance. On the Platoon Sergeant becoming a casualty, GORMAN took charge of the Platoon and led them forward to their objective. On arrival there he patrolled No Man's Land under heavy machine gun fire, and, having obtained information of importance, established a forward post of great tactical strength. In an encounter with the enemy he took ten of them prisoners and, later, by his skilful direction of the fire of his men, dispersed the enemy time and again as they attempted to reform for counter attack. By his capable organization the men of his post were enabled to successfully route the enemy when they attempted to counter attack and to inflict heavy casualties on them as they withdrew.'
