Military Medal 'For conspicuous gallantry on the 23rd ay of August, 1918, at HERLEVILLE WOOD. During the attack when a period of wood fighting was in progress, and his men temporarily held up, this N.C.O. under intense Machine Gun and rifle fire made several daring reconnaissances, returning to reorganize his scattered men and leading them forward succeeded in gaining the final objective. Although wounded early in the advance he refused to leave the line and remained on duty until the situation became secure. He showed courage of a very high order.'
