Medals

Military Medal

'For bravery and devotion to duty as linesman in the operations from 18th September, 1918, near HARGICOURT. Owing to heavy shell fire the lines were constantly broken. He was untiring in his efforts to maintain communications with Brigade and Companies. On 21st September, 1918, when it was most important to establish communication with Brigade, in spite of heavy shell fire, he made many efforts to carry out this duty. He was relieved of this duty while his Sergeant and others went out with the same object, with the result that all were severely wounded. Immediately afterwards he again sent out and by choosing another route succeeded in getting the line through a matter of the greatest importance owing to the obscurity of the situation at the moment.'
