'On the 30th April in NOREUIL VALLEY the battery was being heavily shelled and the camouflage and timber in the gun pit were set alight. 250 rounds were stored in the pit, and were beginning to explode when Bombardier GRAHAM, after exhausting the water made available for such emergencies, extinguished the flames by beating them out with his own hands, getting severely burnt while doing so. he behaved most gallantly, and rendered excellent service under most trying conditions.'
