Mother wrote to Base Records, 21 June 1920: 'The Identity Disc of my son Pt. T.N. Baker No 1623 53rd Batt was returned home on Thursday the 10th June. My son was reported killed in action July 19, 1916, but had been previously reported missing, I never received any further news. As to how he was killed or where buried, & now this Disc has been returned but no further news as to where it was found etc. I would be glad to have all the particulars you can give me as to the nature of the wounds that caused my son's death, & where he was buried.'

Base Records replied, 29 June 1920: 'No particulars in connexion with burial have yet come to hand but an intensive search is now being made over all old battlefields ... Advice as to how the disc was discovered has not come to hand but probably same may have been recovered during the search referred to above.'
