Military Medal 'For gallantry and devotion to duty during the period 14th September, 1918 to 23rd September, 1918 when his Battalion was engaged in the forward area. This courageous N.C.O. personally supervised the collection of fallen troops and the burying of same. After the attack he along with Stretcher Bearers searched "No Mans Land" day and night for killed and wounded and although always under Machine Gun fire he aided wounded men back to safety and successfully removed all bodies to the rear and buried same. His splendid example of courage and devotion to duty was an inspiring feature to all.'
