Meritorious Service Medal 'Period 22nd September, 1917, to 24th February, 1918. He has been noted throughout his service for his courage, willingness, fine spirit and the excellence of his horses. On 26th September, 1917, at HOOGE when one of a party packing ammunition he did particularly good work under heavy fire in getting ammunition through to the Battery when it was imperative for use in the attack the following day. The fire was particularly severe and he passed through it with his horses several times, his cheerfulness and confident attitude having the greatest effect on the other drivers.'
