Other details | Son of William Henry and Emily Louise Gray. Served in CMF prior to WWI and was commissioned 2nd Lieutenant when enlisting. Served at Armentiers (March - August 1916) and Pozieres in August 1916. Was shot in the lung and evacuated to 3rd London General Hospital approx September 1917. After WWI he continued serving with CMF (Hobart) and was promoted to Captain, Australian Engineers on 30 March 1921. Promoted Major 12 April 1934. Entered full time duty 1 April 1940 with AHQ Melbourne. Throughout his military career was intensly interested in Rifle Clubs serving as Secretary and Director of Rifle Clubs and V.D.C. Between the wars served two terms as Alderman of Hobart City Council and was long time Secretary of Hobart Branch of RSL |
