Military Medal

'On 6th/7th/8th and 9th June, 1917 during operations south of MESSINES, for magnificent work and personal bravery whilst acting as a runner. He carried important despatches to the rear and to the flanks through intense enemy barrages and assisted in maintaining communication with Battalion Headquarters. On the occasion of a trip to a Battalion on the right flank he killed two of the enemy and captured a prisoner. Throughout the whole operation he displayed the greatest coolness and bravery and set a splendid example to all ransk.'
