War service: Egypt, Gallipoli, Western Front Joined 9th Bn, Gallipoli, 22 June 1915. Wounded in action, 28 June 1915 (gun shot wound, left thigh); admitted to No 2 General Hospital, Mena, 13 July 1915; transferred to Convalescent Camp, Helouan, 5 August 1915. Embarked Alexandria, 2 October 1915; rejoined Bn, Gallipoli, 13 October 1915. Disembarked Alexandria, 4 January 1916 (general Gallipoli evacuation). Found guilty, 19 February 1916, of disobedience of orders: awarded 24 hours' Field Punishment No 2. Transferred to 49th Bn, 25 February 1916; taken on strength, 29 February 1916. Transferred to Artillery, and taken on strength, 11th Field Artillery Brigade, Tel el Kebir, 17 March 1916, and posted to 44th Battery. Promoted Acting Bombardier, 21 April 1916; reverted to Gunner at own request, 4 May 1916.
