War service: Egypt, Western Front Taken on strength, 60th Bn, Tel el Kebir, 26 February 1916. Transferred to 59th Bn and taken on strength, 15 March 1916. Embarked Alexandria to join the British Expeditionary Force, 18 June 1916; disembarked Marseilles, France, 29 June 1916. Posted missing, 19 July 1916. Subsequently declared 'Killed in Action, 19 July 1916'. Statement, Red Cross File No 1211003, 3113 Corporal J. MOSS, D Company, 59th Bn, 19 June 1917: 'Gregory was in the M.G.S., D Company. I have never spoken to him, but I have seen him in the Company for about five or six months. I saw his grave in the big Military Cemetery at Fleurbaix last August where a number of men of the same Battalion are buried. There was a cross with his number, name and battalion on it.'
