Military Medal

'This boy, a Battalion Bugler, volunteered for duty as a runner. During the operations north west of POZIERES 10th to 15th and 29th to 31st August, 1916, he was about the best of a fine body of runners. Time after time, at all hours of the day and night, he carried messages to every part of the firing line and to the Battalion Signal Station. Constantly under heavy shelling and knee deep in mud, he was untiring in his devotion to duty. I recommend him highly.'
