Military Medal

'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty whilst in charge of a bearer squad in the ZONNEBEKE area, east of YPRES on 18th/19th October, 1917, particularly under the following circumstances. After carrying continuously for 24 hours his squad was exhausted through carrying over difficult ground and under heavy shell fire when about on on the 19th October, 1917, hearing that an English Officer was lying wounded between two relay posts Lance Corporal GREY collected three volunteers and successfully brought in the Officer (a Major). This happened at a time when evacuation had temporarily ceased owing to heavy enemy shell fire.'
