Taken on strength, 9th Light Horse, 7 January 1916. Admitted to hospital, 18 February 1916. Taken on strength, 11th Light Horse, 22 February 1916. Transferred to 3rd Light Horse Reserve Regiment, 23 June 1916; transferred to 3rd Double Squadron, 6 July 1916; taken on strength, 4th Australian Camel Regiment, 2 November 1916.

Found guilty of being absent without leave, 1700-2000, 14 November 1916, and being improperly dressed: awarded 7 days' Field Punishment No. 2. Found guilty of being out of bounds in a brothel in Cairo, 29 December 1916: awarded 2 days' Field Punishment No. 2.

Transferred to 17th Company, Imperial Camel Corps, 8 February 1917. Found guilty of being absent without leave, 1800-2015, 6 February 1917, and being improperly dressed: awarded 14 days' Field Punishment No. 2.

Wounded in acton, 19 April 1917.

Treated several times in 1917 for venereal disease, the last occasion 1-8 July 1918. Discharged from hospital and failed to report to his unit. Court of Enquiry, 5 September 1918, found that he had illegally absented himself from Moascar from 10 July 1918 and was still absent, and that he was deficient of articles to the value of 3 pounds 19 shillings and seven pence ha'penny.

Discharged in his absence, 21 July 1920, on account of desertion.

Medals (1914-15 Star, British War Medal, Victory Medal) were ordered to be forfeited by Standing Army Medal Board, 1922.
