'During the operations at BROODSEINDE RIDGE, East of YPRES on 8th October 1917 this man was in charge of a Bearer squad at a R.A.P. in a very exposed situation. Though the place was continually shelled and snipers made movement outside full of risk, this man worked his squad by day and night, over almost impassable ground, and yet maintained the spirits of his men under almost unparalleled circumstances.'
