Military Medal

'During the operations east of YPRES on 4th October 1917, he was employed as a Company Runner from Strong Point in BECELAERE RIDGE to WESTHOEK. On all occasions he carried out his duties in a brave and efficient manner. During the day he made seven return trips over ground continuously swept by Machine Gun fire and under heavy enemy shelling. He displayed great courage throughout.'
