'At AMMAN on 25th September, 1918, for great ash and initiative in that he when working a Hotchkiss Rifle pushed his rifle forward onto the flank of a party of the enemy who were holding the railway line bringing infilade fire onto them and causing them to surrender. He then pushed forward with his rifle and gave excellent covering fire to his Squadron attacking a . . . and greatly assisted his Squadron in capturing an enemy strong post.'
