Found guilty of being absent without leave from midnight, 3 November-6am, 5 November 1916: awarded forfeiture of 7 days' pay, 8 November 1916. Rejoined unit and appointed Lance Corporal, 20 March 1917. Wounded in action, 26 March 1917. Transferred to England on board the 'Cambria', 31 March 1917.
