Military Medal 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty near Hebuterue on 29th March 1918. This soldier was acting as runner for an officer (Lt.. V.E. Hale) during a bombing attack along an enemy trench. He displayed great coolness and disregard for danger in carrying reports back and forward and, at a later stage when the success of the operation was in jeopardy owing to a hitch in the supply of bombs. Private Hamilton carried bombs tirelessly from one trench to another continually passing over the top under heavy fire from enemy machine guns and bombs. He came under the notice of and was recommended by both Company Commanders.'
