Military Medal

'On 4th October 1917, East of YPRES, he displayed conspicuous bravery and devotion to duty. This man was in charge of a Stokes gun and team which was in charge of a Stokes gun and team which was instrumental in silencing an enemy strong-point which resisted by heavy machine gun fire. Later on, when in position in the front line, his gun was buried by enemy shell and the crew scattered, he extricated the gun and alone continued to fire the gun until the whole of his ammunition was expended. He did much damage to enemy's strong-point and his perseverance under trying conditions was highly commendable.'
