Military Medal

'He took charge of a wiring party East of MESSINES on the night of the 23rd/24th August 1917. This party was subjected to heavy machine gun and Granatenwerfer fire and suffered casualties throughout the night. Corporal Hanson, by his cheerful contempt for danger and splendid example, so encouraged his men that he eventually succeeded in getting out a good line of wire. Although his had been the most strenuous and dangerous work he volunteered for and successfully guided the relieving unit into position.'
